Dear East Baton Rouge Parish families,
We hope this message finds you safe and well following the impact of Hurricane Francine. The East Baton Rouge Parish School System and all administrative sites will reopen Friday, Sept. 13. However, we are still monitoring the following sites due to lingering power outages: Glasgow Middle, and Westdale Middle We will have additional updates on those facilities by 6 p.m. Thursday. For the latest information, please visit ebrschools.org. Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to welcoming our students back to school on Friday. Due to inclement weather forecasts and in the interest of safety for our students and staff, the East Baton Rouge Parish School System has made the decision to cancel classes districtwide on Wednesday, Sept. 11, and Thursday, Sept. 12.
The safety and well-being of our students, employees and their families remain our top priorities, and we believe that this measure is necessary given the predicted severe weather conditions. We encourage all families to take precautionary measures and to stay informed through reliable weather updates. Please note that all after-school activities and events scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday week will also be canceled. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this time. The district will adhere to normal dismissal procedures on Tuesday, and all after-school activities are canceled for Tuesday afternoon. District staff will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as needed. Thank you for your attention, and please stay safe. We are so excited to begin the 2024-2025 school year! Our theme for the school year is Teach, Develop, Practice, & Perform: It's Showtime 2024-2025! As we embark upon a new school year, our mindset is clearly stated in our vision: striving for excellence in academic, social, and character development. We strive for excellence in all we do, leaving the past behind as we look to the future while building positive relationships, a mindset of achievement grounded in critical thinking, and opportunities for life-changing experiences! As a school, we are charged with creating a safe and academically impactful environment. We understand that your family chose Park Forest Elementary, Creative Sciences & Arts Magnet! For that, we thank you! We will continue to uphold the four cornerstones of the East Baton Rouge Parish School System: Student Achievement, Exemplary Customer Service, Operational Excellence, and Employee Development. Our main focus is to educate our students as needed to be ready for the next grade level and beyond. We accomplished many beautiful things last school year. As we reflect on our many accomplishments, here are a few: we created mentor groups for the 5th-grade boys, continued the Basketball team, and they made it to the championships and created opportunities for volunteerism at the local nursing home! Our students also participated in Esports and regional and national STEAM competitions. Our school won many state and national awards last year. The BEST STEAM school of the MID-SOUTH Region, the 2023 BEST OF GREEN SCHOOLS Award, & the 2023 U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon AWARD! Magnet Certification and Magnet Merit School of EXCELLENCE! Our student of the year was a district finalist! Parental and community support is necessary for our success! We held the 2nd annual Gardening with Grandparents Event, which focused on literacy as we walked through the garden, Trunk a Treat hosted by parents, and The FAMOUS SINGING PIRATES CHRISTMAS ALBUM RELEASE. The music department continued the orchestra and band program. Click here for a look at last year’s accomplishments! Now, we must move forward to this upcoming year! To get to the next level, which means we will be going higher, we need more from you as a parent. We must focus on Attendance, Homework, Reading & Writing, volunteerism, and ENGLISH classes for our Hispanic population of parents. Stakeholder support for the school and continuous work are needed for every school year. Students, commitment, and parental involvement are required. As we wait on the official school score, student achievement is a priority to continue increasing our school letter grade of a "B" or better. We must continue our data-driven actions and teacher development to improve instruction. Our faculty and staff stand ready to build positive relationships with families while building academically capable students prepared to conquer our world through their technology, intelligence, & nurtured talent. As we move forward, the 2024-2025 school year will be the best one yet—FULL STEAM AHEAD PURSUING EXCELLENCE 2024-2025! For questions or comments, please contact us at (225) 272-0814.
